The 85th Academy Awards in Numbers - infographic designed and illustrated for Virgin Movies.

As you can imagine, I had lots of fun putting this one together, figuring out the composition and balancing out the design and typography with all the illustrations needed.

Basically I created a nice tight grid to build everything on, and used various weights of Museo Sans (which is actually a typeface that Virgin used but it also just happened to be perfect for my needs) to bring it all together and add interest. With the wealth of information to be presented (in terms of the statistics themselves and the visual complexity), locking the palette down to black, white and red (and grey) seemed like a natural way to unite everything and ensure that it packed a punch.

Huge thanks to Virgin Movies for letting me loose on such an interesting challenge.

At the National History Museum in Bucharest, every battle scene from the Dacian Wars (101-102/105-106 a. Christ) are to be found on the replica of Trajan’s Column which counts 124 scenes. This piece of sculpture is a natural-size copy of the Trajan’s Column, which displays the frieze horizontally in segments and offers the chance to capture every episode of this conflict, the arrival of the roman troops in Dacia lead by the Roman Emperor Marcus Ulpius Nerva Traianus Augustus, the siege of Sarmiszegetusa Regia (the Dacian stronghold) and the suicide of Decebalus, the  leader of the daci people. This visual evidence of the Dacian Wars is 30 m high, contains 18 Carrara marble blocks which weigh 40 tones each. Impressive.

One of the most funniest teen movie that I’ve ever seen, Submarine presents the life of a 15-year-old boy who wants to get a girlfriend, lose his virginity, reawaken the dead passion between his parents and keep a dirty, fallen rock star wannabe out of his mother’s sight. Pictured in a small, unknown British town, somewhere at the seaside, this story convinces us that there’s more to it than that. Life can be complicated even if you’re a messy, cherry, clumsy teen who shouldn’t normally worry about anything. More than a bildungsfilm, this movie teaches us once again that teens want to be grown-ups prematurely.
